A step forward in our mission to protect the planet
We couldn’t be more excited to share that we’re the first ever production kitchen to earn a Green Kitchen Standard certification. Awarded by the Soil Association, the recognition celebrates caterers that take real, practical steps to protect the planet, like reducing waste, saving energy and using water wisely. For us, it’s another way of showing that better food should mean a better future.
Caron Longden, Head of Business Development for Healthy and Sustainable Food at Soil Association: “Becoming Green Kitchen Standard certified is a great achievement showing caterers at the forefront of combating climate change by reducing environmental impact. Through implementing best practice, monitoring energy, water use and waste, as well as setting improvement targets, Green Kitchen Standard shines a light on your hard work and showcases caterers leading by example.”

One plate at a time
It all starts with how we run our kitchens. At the Cuisine Centre, we’ve cut back on our overall water use, and all the energy we use on our sites is 100% renewable. Our food waste minimisation plan helps us get more out of every resource. With over 14 million meals a year served to schools, hospitals and workplaces, our choices make an impact. Gaining Green Kitchen Standard recognition shows what sustainable catering looks like in action.
Rees Bramwell, Sustainability Director, Compass One: “This certification focuses on doing the basics brilliantly. We know the value that our natural resources have, and this endorsement sends a clear message that we have solid sustainability practices in place – giving us the foundations to build on and progress even further. Our size and scale mean that by taking positive steps to protect the environment, we can make a big impact, so it is brilliant to be able to pass these benefits on to our clients and customers too.”

Powered by passion
We couldn’t have done this without the team behind us, from our dedicated Dietitians to our pioneering New Product Developers. They’re the driving force behind Steamplicity, the system that steam-cooks fresh meals in minutes, Moreish, the frozen range that guarantees locked-in goodness, and our carefully curated chilled plates. Delicious and nutritious, every one of them meets the gold standard set by the British Dietetic Association’s Nutrition and Hydration Digest.
Driving change
Greg Harrison, MD, Cuisine Centre: “We work hard to provide nutritious and delicious food to our clients and customers. What is important is that we do this in the most sustainable way we can, so to achieve the Food for Life Green Kitchen Standard is an important milestone. This sets a clear benchmark that we are leading the way in everyday efficiency.”
What it means
The Green Kitchen Standard
What makes the Green Kitchen Standard so special is that it focuses on the everyday choices that really matter. Kitchens working towards certification must run every site under clear energy, water and waste policies, put food waste minimisation at the top of their agenda, and make recycling easy for both staff and customers.
Since 1946, the Soil Association has worked to protect nature by transforming how we grow, cook and eat. Their initiatives include supporting regenerative farming, improving school food, and influencing national environmental policy. By earning this certification, we’re aligning ourselves with an organisation that’s been driving positive change for nearly 80 years.
